INSTRUCTIONS

1.  Use the "Volume Sheets" to obtain aggregate class data.
2.  Enter aggregate data in the green cells (species, #trees, #sawlogs, #pulpsticks, #plots)
3.  Use the calculated averages to look up the "factors"
4.  Enter the appropriate factor in the green cells.
5.  Volumes and BA will be calculated (red text).
6.  This spreadsheet can be used to calculate figures for each species, or for the entire stand.
7.  If a printer is attached, you can print this spreadsheet by selected the cells below and printing just that selection.
(Click "File", then "print", then the "selection" button, then "OK"
8. Once stand data are entered, you can model changes by "harvesting" trees (tables in the blue section).
For the Excel spreadsheet, click here.
Enter number of trees you would like to cut in the ORANGE column
VOLUME AND BASAL AREA CALCULATIONS BASED ON FIELD DATA     to see what effect that will have on the total stand volumes and basal area.
CAUTION - Do NOT change any other cell!!
Species: all species       Enter data in green cells ONLY   Note:  Right-clicking a highlighted cell(s), and selecting "clear contents" is the
best way to remove numbers in the orange column.
Step 1:  Fill in green cells in table below using         PERCENT OF EACH SPECIES BY TREE COUNT,        HARVEST CALCULATOR
species names and sums from field tally sheets         SAWTIMBER, AND PULPWOOD     Existing stand data       Post-harvest stand data

Cord Factor   Note:  Basal area is used to calculate volumes, not dbh.

Step 3:  Use calculated sawlog & pulpstick averages to select appropriate sawlog & pulpwood factor.
Enter these factors into green cells above.  Read final calculated volumes & basal area in red text (above).
