TEACHERS GUIDE
The material, exercises, and activities in this website
have been reviewed and tied to the Michigan Curriculum Framework benchmarks for Science,
Social Studies, Math, and Language Arts, with a middle school
focus. Four tables have been constructed to provide links to areas of this website
that address each benchmark listed. Many benchmarks are addressed in multiple
locations within this website. To view the tables, either scroll down on this page
or click on the following content area. In the four tables, the right-hand column
displays links within the website that apply to the benchmark in the left-hand column.
Codes are used to identify specific benchmarks
throughout this website . Each code consists of four parts; the
Curriculum Area, the Strand, the Standard, and the Benchmark. The exception (at the
time of publishing) was the English Language Arts curriculum, where there are no numbered
strands in the Michigan Curriculum Framework. Therefore, for Language Arts, the
"strand code" always appears as a Roman Numeral "I".
For example: "S.II.1.ms5 "
means "Science ", Strand "II ",
Standard "1 ",
and " middle school
benchmark #5 ". Associated with each
"benchmark code" is an alpha designation for elementary school (es), middle
school (ms), or high school (hs). This website, and the "Michigan Forests
Forever" CD-ROM, is focused at the middle school level. However, some school
districts teach elementary and high school benchmarks at the middle school, so, some of
those are also included. Please note that a benchmark application may not
include all the elements within the particular benchmark .
The website was designed, first, as a forestry and natural
resource educational tool FOR teachers. Website compliance to the Michigan
Curriculum Framework has been done as a service for teachers, by teacher request. Not
all benchmarks for the four curriculum areas are addressed by this website .
